What a Swoop is, and what happens to it
What is Swoop?
Swoop is the part of Swords Live for issues that need attention in public space.
You notice something that needs attention. Swoop makes it easy to collect the information, pin it to the exact place on the map and inform Fingal County Council.
One person can start it. Everyone can build it.
What does a Swoop contain?
A Swoop brings the important information together in one place:
Pinned location
An exact GPS location on the map.
Photos
Clear images of the issue.
Category
What type of issue it is.
Information
A clear, structured, shareable record with its own unique reference.
Swoop Request
Every Swoop sends the information to Fingal County Council Operations. The Council reference is linked back to the Swoop.
What happens after a Swoop is created?
The first person creates the Swoop at a map location.
The information is sent to Fingal County Council Operations.
Other people can then add what they see, know or find out.
New photos, information and updates stay connected to the same Swoop — the same place on the map.
Updates are dated, so what happens can be tracked over time. If an issue recurs, the Swoop can be updated.
A Swoop stays with the place where it started.
What is the Story?
The Story is the information and update history attached to a Swoop.
It begins when the Swoop is created and can continue to build as people add photos, information and updates over time.
What is a Swoop Request?
A Swoop Request is the request for assistance sent from the Swoop to Fingal County Council Operations.
It is part of the Swoop, not the whole record. The Swoop remains on the map so that the place, the request and what happens next stay connected.
Does every Swoop go to Fingal County Council?
Yes.
Every Swoop sends the information collected to Fingal County Council Operations as a request for assistance with the issue.
Can other people contribute to a Swoop?
Yes.
A Swoop is not limited to the person who started it. Other contributors can add what they see, know or find out, building the Story around the same place.
What happens if the issue comes back?
The existing Swoop can be updated.
Because the Story stays attached to the place, a recurring issue does not have to lose its earlier history.
What kinds of issues can I Swoop?
Current categories include:
- Graffiti
- Leaks and Drainage
- Litter and Illegal Dumping
- Road or Path Defects
- Street Lighting
- Tree and Grass Maintenance
- Other
Choose the category that most closely matches what you have found.
Does Swoop replace Fingal County Council or local groups?
No.
Swoop supports the people and groups already doing the work. It does not replace their efforts; it gives everyone a simple way to work together, share what they know and help resolve issues that affect us all.
Do I need to be a contributor?
You need Swords Live contributor access to publish a Swoop or add a contribution.

Is my email address published?
No.
Your email address is used for verification and contributor updates. It is not published.
Your contributions appear under the name you provide when you apply.
Why does Swoop use an exact map location?
The location is one of the most important parts of a Swoop.
Pinning the issue to the actual place means the information can be understood and acted on without someone first having to work out where you meant.
What is the idea behind Swoop?
Making the issue clear makes action easier.
Swoop keeps the place, the request and what happens next connected.
